Creating Your Social Networking Website Profile

Many people wonder what to put in their social networking profile. Most of the time, though, people don’t give it enough thought; they simply put whatever they want too on their profile. The recent trends in social networking leave many people to believe that anything and everything is fair game when it comes to social networking. What should you put on your profile, and what shouldn’t you put on your profile?
Identifying Information
Many times, social networking websites will ask you for identifying information. Go to almost any social site and you’ll see that you’re asked for some sort of personal, identifying information. The question then becomes, how much personal information do you give away? With just your first name, last name, and your date of birth, someone can find your home address if you aren’t careful. Many people put their real first and last name, but change their date of birth.
Do not give your social security number to any social site unless you are positive that it is a reputable, honest website.
Status updates and Identifying Photos
Many adult users who just sign up for social network sites wonder what to put on their status update when they first sign up. The most common statement is that whatever you put on the internet will be there for forever, so be very careful. Your boss or future employer may be able to see what information you post on your page, so be sure to keep it professional.
Social Networking When Sick
Be very careful of using any social network service when you are sick. If you make a post from home after you have called off of work due to not feeling well, you could get into trouble for it. Keep this in mind when creating your profile.
Many people enjoy the benefits of a social networking website. Is a social networking website right for you? Only you can find out.
